DIY Storage Shelves in the Attic
After all the hustle and bustle of the holiday, Aaron and I finally had some time this past weekend for a DIY project that has been on our todo list for a while: storage shelves in the attic.
Materials
- 2 - Plywood 5/8” thick 4’‘x8’ - $48.54. Cut to 3 pieces: 3’‘x4’, 3’‘x4’, 3’‘x5’
- 5 - 93” long 2”×4” - $14.60. Cut to 10 pieces - 2”×4”×40”
- 2.5” PG Exterior screws - $8.47
- Level
Total: $71.61
Steps
- Determine where you want the shelves to sit. Use a level to assure the 2”×4” planks are level across the rafters. Use 2.5” wood screws to secure 2”×4” planks to rafter.
-
Secure 1 2”×4” plank to each rafter. Rafters where adjoining sheets of plywood meet require 2 2”×4” planks.
- Lay one piece of plywood across 3 planks. Use 1.5” wood screws to secure plywood to 2”×4” planks.
-
Repeat step 3 for each piece of plywood.
