Simple DIY Gift in a Box Ideas
Throughout the year there are countless gift giving opportunities. The problem is I’m rarely as prepared as I’d like to be so having a quick last minute gift idea on hand is key. The trick is not making it feel like a last minute idea. With Easter just a few short weekends away, I have baskets/boxes on my mind. I like “box gifts” because they are thoughtful, unique and have a personal feel. Probably the best part is the endless options that can be as fancy or budget-friendly as you want. I gave these ice-cream boxes to Max’s teachers last year and had so much fun making them. Here are the steps I used for a quick, but fun, gift, as well a few other gift in a box ideas (from Pinterest, of course).
Ingredients:
Once you pick the theme for your box the ingredients are easy. Here’s what I included for my ice cream box:
-
Ice Cream Cups/ Cones - a stack of cups or cones are a must-have. The $1 section at Target has a lot of colorful and fun options, especially around this time of year. Or if you prefer a more eco-friendly option these glass dessert bowls are adorable and only $3!
-
Spoons - wrap a stack of plastic spoons in a clear cellophane bag and tie it off with twine or ribbon.
-
Ice Cream Scoop - An ice cream scoop is a nice touch. Try a heat conducting scoop or a non-drip option.
-
Toppings - here’s where you can really get personal, but know your audience. Is the recipient gluten free, allergic to peanuts? Put your toppings in a clear cellophane bag then fold a piece of card stock over the bag opening and staple it shut. To hide the staples I wrapped colorful washi tape around the top. Alternatively you can tie each bag with a ribbon or twine. I used these 4x6 treat bags and found them to be the perfect size.
-
Hot fudge/caramel - package hot fudge or caramel in a small mason jar.
-
Box - Of course you can use whatever box or basket you find, but I found that 8x8x4 kraft boxes or 7x7x4 kraft boxes are a nice size.
Lastly, arrange your items with tissue paper. Put enough tissue paper so everything fits nice and snug. Add a note that says “just add ice-cream”, or throw in a gift card to a local ice cream shop.
